Synopsis

Nobody’s ever seen Dracula this funny. Five or more actors play dozens of zany characters in a madcap take on the classic tale that’s guaranteed to induce blood-curdling screams — of laughter!

Ever wondered what would happen if you took Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale and put it into a blender with Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and The 39 Steps? That’s just what happens in this lightning-fast, laugh-out-loud, 90-minute, gender-bending romp. When her sister Mina falls ill with a mysterious disease of the blood, Lucy Westfeldt and her fiancé, Jonathan Harker, enlist the help of famed female vampire hunter Doctor Jean Van Helsing. Their hunt for the dangerous and sexy Count Dracula abounds with clever wordplay and quick-change antics. Five actors play over a dozen roles in this bloodcurdlingly hilarious send-up of the literary classic.

This show features a main cast of five actors who play multiple roles in a fast-paced, gender-bending spoof of the classic novel. The central characters are reimagined for comedic effect.

Main Characters

Mix-Dracula:

Described as a hugely sexy, self-centered, and charismatic rock star in leather pants. Bored with easy attention, they seek challenges and find themselves obsessed with Lucy’s strength and adventurous nature. The character is often portrayed as pansexual and modern.

Jonathan Harker:

A prim, proper, and obsessive-compulsive real estate agent who is engaged to Lucy. Frightened of most things and a complete rule-follower, he loosens up considerably and becomes a “Tom Jones-style rock star” after being bitten by Dracula.

Lucy Westfeldt:

The intelligent and plucky daughter of Dr. Westfeldt and the heroine of the story. An earth scientist who longs for adventure, she is the lead in her relationship with Jonathan and is initially intrigued by Dracula.

Mina Westfeldt / Dr. Van Helsing:

Both roles are typically played by the same actor.

  • Mina: Lucy’s less intelligent, less attractive sister, desperate for attention and immediately smitten with Dracula’s charms.
  • Dr. Van Helsing: A brilliant, sturdy, and bold female German doctor from the “University of Schmutz” and a serious vampire hunter, often speaking with a heavy German accent (ala Mel Brooks).

Dr. Westfeldt / Renfield:

These roles are also typically played by the same actor.

  • Dr. Westfeldt: The self-important, blowhard father of Lucy and Mina who runs a lunatic asylum out of his home.
  • Renfield: An insane patient in the asylum with a Cockney dialect who loves eating bugs and eventually becomes a servant to Dracula.

Minor Characters

Kitty:

A dotty, kleptomaniac patient who serves as a maid in the Westfeldt house.

Captain & Bosun:

The seamen on the ship that transports Dracula to England.

Gravedigger:

A mysterious, drunk character who helps in the hunt.

Driver:

The Eastern European carriage driver who takes Jonathan to Castle Dracula.

Lucy’s Suitors:

Various potential suitors for Lucy, including the Scottish Lord Cavendish and the “Elvis” inspired Lord Havemercy, servant to Dracula.
