Summer Class Schedule

Summer classes meet every day for one or two weeks.

Preschool: Imagination Explorers

Monday June 17th –  Friday June 21st 

11 am – Noon

Strap on your imagination and get ready to explore the ocean, magical lands, a pirate ship and so much more! In this class designed just for 3 – 5 year olds, your young actor will create a character, learn a line and act out a new story. Along the way, through a variety of creative and dramatic games, students will learn theatre etiquette, develop their imagination, improve their self- confidence, and provide social interaction within an organized class setting.

K - 2nd: Pirate Adventures

Monday July 8th – Friday July 12th

10 – 11:30 am

Every year, the pirates meet at a secret location to share their most daring adventures.  Don’t miss their stories of sea monsters, krakens and treasures under the sea!  The class instructor will work with each student to help them create a unique pirate character.  Students will then be a part of a narrated performance complete with costumes and makeup on the last day of class. Each day of class, students will also have the chance to play fun theatre games and work on their acting skills.

3rd - 6th: The Wizard Game

Monday July 22nd – Friday July 26th

10 am – 2 pm

The two mightiest wizards in the land are bored, so they decide to makeup a game and bet on the winner.  They kidnap a wacky group of characters and set them loose on their game board.  Who will win? This class starts with the experience of auditioning and contuse with the creation of a character, memorization of lines and a full performance with costumes and makeup. All students will receive a major role in this show that is performed for the public on July 26th and 27th at 7 pm.

7th - 12th: Circus of Secrets

Monday July 29th – Friday August 2nd

10 am- 2 pm

When street magician, Mirage, is invited to join the Circus of Secrets, it’s like a dream come true.  But it soon turns into a nightmare when the circus performers are being removed from the ring one by one!  Mirage will need to discover the secrets held by the acts in this mysterious circus before it’s too late.  This class starts with the experience of auditioning and contuse with the creation of a character, memorization of lines and a full performance with costumes and makeup. All students will receive a major role in this show that is performed for the public on August 2nd and 3rd at 7 pm.

3rd - 8th: Peter Pan Jr.

Monday August 5th – Friday August 9th AND Monday  August 12th – Friday August 16th

10 am – 2 pm

Class ACT is excited to present Peter Pan Jr. 

Based on J.M. Barrie’s classic tale, Peter Pan is one of the most beloved and frequently performed family favorites of all time.  This high-flying Tony Award winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 tears; featuring the iconic songs, “I’m Flying,” “I’ve Gotta Crow”, “I Won’t Grow Up,” and “Never Never Land”, as well as a rousing book full of magic, warmth and adventure.

This class starts with the experience of auditioning and contuse with the creation of a character, memorization of lines and a full performance with costumes and makeup. All students will receive a major role in this show that is performed for the public on August 16th at 7 pm, August 17th at 2 pm and 7 pm and August 18th at 2 pm

9th -12th: Dramatic Acting Workshop

Monday July 15th – Friday July 19th

10 am – 12 pm

$100

Students will enhance their dramatic acting skills during this Dramatic Acting workshop! Students will work on acting techniques and skills, learn some basic acting exercises, and then put those techniques and skills to use by working in groups or pairs on Dramatic Scenes. All students will be put into a scene which will be showcased for the public on Friday July 19th at 7pm.  

Summer Teachers

Willow McLaughlin

Preschool

Willow McLaughlin is the Coordinator for the Class ACT program and has been teaching theatre for 20 years. She taught Drama and Block at AMS for 10 years, and has been teaching classes for all ages in the Class ACT program since 2009. Willow also recently directed “Anne of Green Gables” for ACT’s Main Stage.

 

Abbi Hanson

3rd - 12th

Abbi Hanson is a theatre education major at WWU.  She has taught Preschool, 3rd -5th, 7th – 12th and with the Schools program for Class ACT. She recently directed “Annie” for Theatre Arts Guild in Mount Vernon.

Rebecca Pursley

K - 2nd

Rebecca Pursley is a retired elementary teacher. She has been teaching Class ACT Kindergarten – 2nd grade classes for the last three years. She is also an active volunteer at Island View Elementary School in Anacortes.
