Anacortes Community Theatre (ACT), celebrating its sixtieth year, offers five or six main stage productions annually, along with classes and occasional fringe productions, and is an active participant in the local arts community.  ACT is governed by a seven-person board elected by the membership (season ticket holders and anyone who pays the membership fee) for two-year staggered terms.  The Board is responsible, through its committees, for oversight of the Executive Director (ED), budget development and adoption, policies, and advocacy.  The Board defines the mission, vision, and goals of ACT and empowers the ED to implement appropriate strategies and action plans.  The ED Job Description lays out these duties in greater detail. 

 

Job Description

 

The ED is responsible for development and management of ACT, including assisting the Board with leadership, strategic planning and fund raising.  The ED oversees the duties of the Theatre Operations Manager, the Class Act Coordinator, and all other ACT staff.  The Board seeks an ED who will be someone eager and excited to join us in maintaining and growing our theatre!

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee all business management of the theatre and the coordination of all activities. Work with the Board’s Production Committee, along with assistance from the Theatre Operations Manager, to plan and implement a Main Stage season.
  • Work with the Board to plan, organize, direct and expand fundraising from corporate, community, foundation, and individual donors.
  • Write grants applications, maintain a grant writing database, and build and sustain relationships with grant-giving organizations and individuals.
  • Maintain a visible leadership role in the community and in the larger theatre community and work closely with the Board to fulfill and advance ACT’s mission.
  • Work with the Board’s Marketing Committee to create and implement the annual marketing plan, including social media, traffic monitoring, online ticket sales, email correspondence, newsletters, press releases, direct mail and other campaigns to build ticket sales, membership, donor and audience basis. Ensure that local and regional media have appropriate and timely information about theatre performances and events.
  • Oversee, with Theatre Operations Manager, the membership and volunteer databases and ACT’s volunteer program. Work to grow the theatre’s volunteer base through expanded outreach, training, supervision and retention of volunteers.
  • Work with Board’s Administrative Committee to hire and provide direct supervision of theatre staff in compliance with the latest Board approved personnel handbook and federal, state and local laws.
  • Work with Board’s Finance Committee to develop annual operating and capital budgets, and to ensure that ACT is operating within approved budgets. Provide oversight to ACT’s independent contractors, including accountant and bookkeeper. 
  • Work with the Board’s Facilities Committee to provide oversight of ACT’s main venue and annex spaces, and development of capital budget to address maintenance needs and capital enhancements.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with the Board and its committees, keeping them current on issues and informed of ongoing work of ED and staff. Attend monthly Board meetings, providing a report on the current state of ACT, and participate in Board discussions. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with and/or in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including the Board and staff, patrons, donors, foundation and community leaders, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting annual fund goals, development management, grant writing, sponsorships and special events.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets.
  • Familiarity with theatre operations a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated track record with respect to detail orientation and accuracy.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work in hands on environment with limited resources.
  • Self-starter attitude.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of Donor Perfect a plus.

 

Compensation

 

      Position is part-time, 30 hours per week, at $30 per hour/$56,000 annually.

Anacortes Community Theatre

Class ACT Instructor

 

Hello! And thank you for your interest in Class ACT.

Class ACT is the education division of Anacortes Community Theatre or ACT. We offer acting classes year-round and work with elementary schools throughout Skagit County to produce all-school plays.

Class ACT positions are paid, part-time, and offered on a class-by-class basis.  All prospective teachers must pass a Washington state background check.

After School Classes

Class ACT offers acting classes according to these age groupings:  Preschool, K – 2nd, 3rd – 5th, 6th – 8th, and 9th – 12th. Except for preschoolers, classes typically conclude with the performance of a scripted play for families and friends. Classes are scheduled Monday through Friday from 3:00pm through 6:00pm; but performances may occur in the evening or on a weekend.

Workshops and Specialty Classes

Classes on topics of interest are held during school breaks and on early-release days.

Workshops and After School Classes are held at Anacortes Community Theater, Buxton’s Art Center, and other designated spaces.

Class ACT in the Schools

These sessions occur throughout the school year in two-week blocks at the school site.

  • We encourage you to apply if have a passion for theater, abundant energy, and enjoy working with children.
  • Acting and directing experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • The more familiarity you have with managing a classroom, the better, but you will not be expected to provide your own curriculum.
  • Class ACT serves Anacortes and surrounding communities in Skagit county, so reliable transportation is required.
